Thoughts on Checkmate so far?
Take heed when reading comments, as they are more then likely to contain spoilers.

Private Wars is Unshelved
Unshelved is a webcomic about the hijinks at a public libary. There have been comics and pop culture sprinkled throughout the series. The Sunday color strip is a "book review" of books they enjoy. This week they featured Greg Rucka's Private Wars
. Current Mood: accomplished

Just found this.
Greg posted this on his message board:
"The other title...I was actually holding back on the announcement about this, but I'll confirm that, yes, I've written a novel to tie into the Xbox 360 title Perfect Dark Zero created by Rare. The novel is being published by Tor, and is supposed to release in September, and is called Perfect Dark: Initial Vector."

btw, the first Queen and Country novel "A Gentleman's Game" is out in mass market paperback. The book includes a short excerpt from the second one "Private Wars". Current Mood: awake
Let's get some discussion going then, shall we?
Was anyone else here at San Diego? I got to meet Mr. Rucka for the first time and talk with him some. What a great guy. Got him to sign my copy of the Queen & Country
novel, the first Q & C: Declassified
hardcover, and a copy of the Whiteout
TPB, which I also got signed and sketched in by the artist Steve Lieber (so cool!!!!).
Did you read the most recent issue of Wonder Woman
??? Holy crap!!! Go Diana! It's going to be very interesting to see the reactions of the various other DC heroes once they find out about it.
I have to hand it to Rucka. I grew up reading Marvel. The only DC character that I really have ever had any interest in was Batman. But I am totally LOVING his run on Wonder Woman
. And it just keeps getting better and better. He's got me buying a Superman book (and Gail Simone has me buying another) and I'm buying all of the "Countdown To Infinite Crisis" books, and I'm really enjoying them.
New Queen & Country novel before the year is out. New Atticus Kodiak book by the end of next year. All these DCU books.
It's a good time to be a Greg Rucka fan.
No one has posted in a month and that makes me sadddd :(

Whoever made this community is hereby declared awesome.
I'm new, I'm Julie, I'm 17.
Haven't read the comics (not a big fan of comics in general) but I've read all the Kodiak novels & Fistful at least once, and Rucka's a genius.
Impatiently awaiting the next Kodiak novel; supposedly set for release mid 2005 but I think Rucka lies. Any updates?

Fading fast . . .
I write this as a deeply embittered, soon-to-be ex-Rucka fan. I have had it up to here
*gestures well above pointy head*
with Queen & Country
, and by extension me and all of you, getting the shaft. I think I'm going to cringe my way through writing a bit of fan-fic wherein Tara stuffs Diana with semtex like a Thanksgiving turkey, leashes the estimable Mr. Rucka up with the Big Dumb Lasso of Truth and forces him to confess that he never really loved any of us in the first place and is a heartless sellout.
Phew. Feel better just venting that.
Sure, Gentleman's Game
was fantastic, and heartbreaking, but not as heartbreaking as being deprived of my 'dessert book', the one I would always save until the very last of the bag to read, so as to ensure that no trip to the comic store could leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Anyone on intimate terms with Mr. Rucka? Anyone live close enough to give him a thorough wedgie-lift-into-swirlie combo on my behalf?
I've, frankly, never been so enraged by a comic book matter. Current Mood: cranky

Reviews of Rucka stuff!
So, just for the sake of shameless shilling of my own reviews at the Inside Pulse, I thought I'd post a couple of reviews that I've done regarding Rucka's work:
The OMAC Project #2: Didn't get a chance to review #1, but hey, here's the second.
Wolverine: The Brotherhood TPB: The first trade of Rucka's run with Logan.
Whiteout TPB: My first impressions of his writing, etc.
Hm. I thought for sure that the Whiteout review had my story about when I had talked with him on the phone a few years ago. Of course, I was working at a call center taking car reseverations, but the odds of getting one of my fave comic book writers in the process? Uncanny.

Just in case any of you have missed this, there's a contest type thing going on where if you buy Greg's new Queen & Country book and mail him the receipt, you'll be entered to win.( Contest detailsCollapse )
All you have to do is buy the novel and mail in the receipt. I highly recommend doing that.

I've been thinkin a lot about Atticus lately. Guess it's time to re-read that series, especially since Richie went ahead and made this here community -- it's a sign.
